Making Spaces Alive – Healing through Design

“Olga Sokolova, M.S. established her firm Olga Mandodari Design as architectural and interior design consulting company with a holistic approach.”

Olga Sokolova, M.S. established her firm Olga Mandodari Design as architectural and interior design consulting company with a holistic approach.

I formally studied and received my Interior Design degree in 2003. I incorporate the best of modern design from my years working at several large interior design firms with my passion for ancient Eastern design principles.

For six years I studied ancient design in South India. My teacher was the famous eleventh generation traditional architect Dr. Ganapati V. Sthapati, and today I sit on his board of trustees (Vaastu Vedic Research Foundation, Chennai, India).

In ancient times people connected deeply with nature. There was an understanding that we must be surrounded by living, breathing spaces governed by the same natural laws of existence as everything else in our living, breathing universe. People knew it then and are remembering it again today.

In India I learned how to weave the energies of nature, people, and spaces together harmoniously. In the same way that the human body knows how to self-heal, and the Earth knows to rotate to welcome a new day, alive spaces inherently know how to nourish and nurture their inhabitants.

My designs inherently bring forward that instant “full-body wow” feeling because alive spaces simply make you feel more aligned, more alive, and more in the natural state of flow.

This ancient design technique is known in Sanskrit as “Vaastu Shastra.” And it’s all about integrating pure energy into design to create spaces that are truly alive.

More about Vaastu Shastra here…

The name Mandodari was given to me by my teacher Ganapati Sthapati as our work unfolded. In ancient Hindu Vedic scriptures, Mandodari was the daughter of an ancient architect who taught Vaastu Shastra thousands of years ago. I, and others propagating this knowledge today, are on a mission to bring these healthful teachings back into the mainstream for the benefit of us all.
